Dancing Around The World - Tegucigalpa
Friday, August 14th, 2015
Dear Friends and supporters of NY2Dance
It's mid August and Enki and I were in Berlin the last two weeks and now on our way Istanbul with Dancing Around The World. We just finished editing a short video of the experience in Tegucigalpa that I would like to share with you here. Our stay in Honduras was very creative, we had full days of workshops at the beautiful Cultural Center and a performance of What Dreams May Come at the National Theater. Our hosts were the amazing Mujeres En Les Artes, a beautiful organization directed by America Mejia, Bayardo Blandino and the infamous Vero Romero. During our stay in Tegucigalpa we performed What Dreams May Come at the National Theater to a full house and very appreciative audience. Throughout the residency we created a site specific scene which was performed and filmed in four different spaces in the city. The people we have encountered were all very generous with their time and passionate about art and creativity. It was amazingly inspiring to teach and interact with people who don't have the luxury of public performances. The site specific performances were very well received and appreciated by the public. Our residency was supported in part by the American Embasy in Honduras and we even got to visit the American Ambassador at the Embassy which was very nice.
We have been on tour since April 12th and I have taught workshops in 7 cities and I performed in Medellin, San Salvador, Tegucigalpa and Lima the solo What Dreams May Come. We have shared with you our experiences of Bogota, Medellin, Lima, Santiago, San Salvador and Pyhajarvi virtually and now happy to share with you Dancing Around The World - Tegucigalpa.
I feel so happy to be able to travel around the world and share my passion of the art of moving and dancing and not just on site but also share these mini films. What an inspiring way to get an insight into a culture and share your passion through movement!!! The performance of Dreams May Come in Tegucigalpa was very special: people were filled with tears and gratitude after the show. It was so rewarding to see how moved and inspired the audience was, but mostly it was a very rich experience working intimately with local dancers and seeing how much they opened up with the world and with each other.
We are looking forward to sharing with you our Berlin experience with Dock11 next. It's been an inspiring experience so far.
