Dancing Around The World - Lima
Tuesday, June 2nd, 2015Dear Friends and supporters of NY2Dance
It's almost summer and Enki Andrews and I are on our way to the fourth country and fifth city of Dancing Around the World. We just finished editing a short video of our experience in Lima that I would like to share with you above.
During our stay in Lima I gave a workshop to local dancers exploring different sites in the city. The workshop was held at D 1 a wonderful school created by Vania Masias a beautiful choreographer and dancer from Lima. We also performed What Dreams May Come at the Instituto Cultural Peruano Norteamericano (ICPNA). It was a sold out performance and we received a standing ovation for the performance. It was so rewarding to see how moved and inspired the audience was. But mostly it was a very rich experience working intimately with local dancers and seeing how their senses sharpened throughout the process.
During my stay I also taught workshops to girls from public schools program directed by Ando Danzando. This was the first time that the students experienced to contemporary dance and it was a delighted to see the shear joy the students had with with it. Attached you will only see what we did in the main workshop as part of Dancing Around The World - Lima.
Other workshops included Ballet San Marcos and the University of San Marcos.
We are now in Santiago and on our way to San Salvador to give workshops at the National School of Dance as well as perform What Dreams May Come at the National Theater. In my next newsletter I will share with you our experience in Santiago. I feel so blessed to be able to travel around the world and share my passion of the art of moving and dancing and not just on site but also share these mini films with you virtually. What an amazing way to get an insight into a culture and share your passion through movement!!!
During our residency in Lima, we were hosted by D1 school of Vania Masias, Ando Danzando, IPCNA and Danza V.I.D.A by Vannia Ibarguen. The workshops were generously funded by Shirley McClelland Fund from Ohio.
We are eager to share with you our Santiago video next. It's been a delicious experience so far.
