Dancing Around The World - Bologna
Monday, September 7th, 2015It's October and Enki and I were in Tunis for the last two weeks. We are now at the half mark of our one year journey. ItâAAs been six month on the road visiting 12 cities in 11 countries in total. We are now in Nairobi, Kenya with Dancing Around The World. We will be performing at the Godown Arts Center What Dreams May Come, giving workshops to Choreographic Conversations with the support from the German Embassy in Nairobi. We just finished editing a short video of the experience in Bologna that I would like to share with you here. Our stay in Bologna was very interesting, we had two weeks of workshops as part of the Festival De Danza Urbana in Bologna. During our stay in Bologna, I gave workshop at three different locations and studios making it accessible to over 40 students. We explored many spaces with the workshop participants mainly in the area where I taught the workshop but the final performance was presented downtown in the beautiful historical center. Throughout the performance we had the audience move with the performance following the little scenes throughout downtown. We have a lot of great footage of Bologna and because of the that we are a little behind editing. Bologna was like stepping back in time especially standing in the Piazza Maggiorre. Home to the oldest university in the world, founded in 1088, the University of Bologna hosts thousands of students who enrich the social and cultural life of the city. Famous for its towers and lengthy porticoes, Bologna has a well-preserved historical centre (one of the largest in Italy) thanks to a careful restoration and conservation policy which began at the end of the 1970s, on the heels of serious damage done by the urban demolition at the end of the 19th century as well as that caused by wars.
We have been on tour since April 12th and have taught workshops in 10 cities and performed in Medellin, San Salvador, Tegucigalpa and Lima the solo What Dreams May Come. We have shared with you our experiences of Bogota, Medellin, Lima, Santiago, San Salvador, Pyhajarvi, Tegucigalpa, Berlin, Istanbul, and now happy to share with you Dancing Around The World - Bologna. Enjoy!!!
I feel so grateful to be able to travel around the world and share my passion of the art of moving and dancing and not just on site but also share these mini videos. What an inspiring way to get an insight into a culture and share your passion through movement!!!
