Exploring Movement and Costume Design with Firebird

In this open workshop participants will explore the theme of transformation and rebirth through the mythical bird Firebird/Phoenix. Participants will be guided to develop their own costume designs that reflect the transformative journey of the Phoenix rising from the ashes as well will learn new movement vocabulary inspired by bird movements (bird-like gestures and shapes, such as wings). Participants should bring their own materials, fabric and feathers to create their own costume designs inspired by the Phoenix or Firebird. The instructor will offer guidance and feedback as needed, and encourage participants to experiment with different materials and textures. At the end of class using the movements and costume designs explored in the previous sections, participants will be encouraged to create their own choreography that they can bring to the Firebird Parade on July 8th at 6pm.
